There could soon be a Frankie & Benny’s and a Chiquito restaurant opposite the Ravenside Retail Park if The Restaurant Group triumph in their bid.

Residents have received leaflets from the group asking for views and questions on the proposal before a formal application is submitted at the end of the month.

A resident of York Road, who wished to remain anonymous, is not in favour of the scheme and said it would lead to the whole field disappearing.

“[It] would be terrible for the local residents in this quiet residential area [because of] noise, traffic, smell all hours day and night,” he said.

“It is a private unadopted road which will be totally disrupted by these restaurants and [would] probably lead to the development of the rest of the field which is part of the country park and the link road is supposed to alleviate traffic this will just increase it.”

The site would be accessed from Lewis Avenue and would have space for 112 cars with a 10 metre ‘buffer’ of plants to the east and south.

The draft proposal would be for two single-storey buildings with green roofs for the restaurants, creating 80 jobs.

“The sensitively designed scheme will effectively form an extension to the existing retail park and has been devised in discussion with a landscape architect, ecologist, transport and noise consultants,” the leaflet says.

“The proposed landscaping will offer an enhanced green edge to the proposed countryside park.

“The restaurants are expected to generate approximately 60 full time and 20 part time jobs and it is anticipated that the majority of these will be filled by local people.”
