Radio presenter launches gala day

RADIO Two presenter Alex Lester was back behind a microphone in Bexhill on Saturday to open a summer gala at the Peterhouse care home in Church Street, Old Town.

He delighted crowds who turned out in fine weather to enjoy a range of seasonal attractions set out in the home’s beautiful 1.5 acres of grounds, enthusiastically staffed by volunteers all keen to raise money for Peterhouse, which provides both residential and day care facilities.

The popular broadcaster, who has a home in nearby St Leonards, was introduced by Peterhouse general manager Lesley Crisford and later chatted with fans of his 2am - 5am Best Time of the Day Show as he was shown around.

Lesley said later: “He was absolutely brilliant on what was a brilliant day. We were very busy from start to finish and luckliy blessed with some fine weather into the bargain.

“Both our hog roast and Pimms cocktails were very popular, as were some home-made stocks, and the raffle was another great success. The winner of a girls’ bicycle returned it to us for auction, which in itself helped us to raise another £30 towards our fantastic total of £ 1,200.”
