Record winds recorded at Herstmonceux

The Met office has recorded a gust of wind of more than 60mph at Herstmonceux, near Hailsham, this morning as St Jude’s Atlantic storm crosses the county and states that the highest winds are yet to hit us.

Gusts of 58mph are being tracked along the coast.

Fallen trees are blocking roads in many areas.

Rail services remain severely disrupted until later this morning, with a ‘reduced service’ on the South Eastern network and no trains running by Southern Railway until 9am, including the Gatwick Express.

The Met Office says the worst of the rain is over but fallen debris on roads and standing water can still cause transport difficulties.
