A charity’s Bexhill community centre has unveiled its newly refurbished rooms funded by a £47,000 grant.
The Pelham’s function room, shower room and kitchen are now open after being refitted and redecorated thanks to Biffa Award.
Bexhill mayor Maurice Watson officially opened the new rooms available for the whole community to use at an event along with Biffa Group ltd representative Ian Tridgell on Friday, November 20.
Project manager Ollie Jeffs said a whole range of events can be held at The Pelham as well as different individuals and organisations.
“This is a significant milestone to have reached for The Pelham as a community centre,” he said.
“We now have the facilities to host a whole range of events, organisations and people from across the community.”
Many people and representatives of organisations were present to celebrate the occasion and have a tour around the recently renovated area.
Since the charity purchased The Pelham Hotel in 2012, these rooms have remained in disrepair and unavailable due to the large amount of work needed to refurbish them.
Over the last few months, contractors have been on site to install new plumbing, electrics, plaster-boarding and plaster.
A team of dedicated volunteers have been decorating The Pelham to a high quality completing the ground floor restoration.
Head of grants at Biffa Award Gillian French said the programme is delighted to support this project with money from the Landfill Communities Fund – which it has been doing since 1997 , handing out more than £155million in grants across the UK.
She said the team at The Pelham have worked very hard to create a fantastic space and should be really pleased with the results.
The coffee lounge was one of the first places to open in January.
The lounge is in the original hotel bar and it is available to hire all week, along with the rest of the hotel.
The hotel is open from 9.30am to 2.30pm from Wednesday to Saturday.
From January, 2016, the coffee lounge will be serving light lunches through the kitchen and catering facilities are also available to hire.
