Rotarians in health boost events

SENLAC Rotary Club recently joined Bexhill opticians Barraclough and Stiles in helping to facilitate free blood pressure checks for the public, carried out by St John Ambulance personnel.

The town centre tests saw 92 adults take the tests, resulting in six being urged to seek urgent follow-ups for blood pressure problems, and a a further 34 being advised to see their doctor for closer examination.

The event in Western Road was promoted by the National Stroke Association as part of a national campaign that encourages people to recognise early signs of health problems and to take steps to counter them.

In a separate event promoted by Senlac Rotarians, groups were encouraged to join like-minded colleagues and volunteers to take part in Walk Week. Among those who took part were FTOP (Friends of the Old People); Rother Seniors, Junkanoo UK, St Mary Star of the Sea, the 73a Centre, ADHD Support Group, Glyne Gap School, the Association of Carers, and Autism.

Excellent weather during the week was a welcome addition, and thoughts are already turning towards repeating the event in 2012. For further details, contact Peter Cocker by e-mail at: [email protected]
