Rother competition winners at DLW Family Christmas Concert

THREE families, who recently won a Rother District Council competition, received their prizes of free tickets to a special Family Christmas Concert, held at the De La Warr Pavilion on Sunday.

The lucky winners, selected by a prize draw, were the Penny family from Whatlington, Mrs Percival from Bexhill, and the Craig family, also from Bexhill.

Mr George Craig, who attended the concert with his wife Mangeet, and their children, eight year old Amber and ten year old Tom, said they were all looking forward to the concert.

He said: "We come to the De La Warr a lot and this is a lovely Christmas treat. We were very, very surprised to win."

The concert held a delightful range of entertainment for all to enjoy, beginning with a selection of Christmas music, played by the Orchestra of St John's, which included a Carol Symphony and a Christmas Concerto.

This was followed by a screening of the Raymond Briggs film, The Snowman.

Head of Policy at Rother District Council, Brenda Mason said the competition, which ran in the council's, 'Rother Views' magazine, had received a good response.

She said: "The whole point of the competition was about communication. We wanted to get an input from residents on their views on the magazine and the council - we want to know what people think."

Also attending the concert was Chairman of Rother District Council, Joanne Gadd and husband Brian Gadd.

Cllr Gadd said: "I think the competition was a splendid idea; competitions encourage people to reply. This is a terrific show and the three families who have won are very lucky."
