The move comes after Westfield Cricket Club applied to Rother District Council for a £200 grant towards its purchase of the £950 piece of equipment.

The recommendation to limit funding features in the agenda released ahead of Monday’s Rother cabinet meeting.

It reads: “The community grants panel recommended that cabinet put a limit on funding for defibrillators, further to a bid from Westfield Cricket Club; as although this bid recognised the importance of defibrillators and is building community resilience and reflects a community taking responsibility, the community grants scheme could receive a significant number of applications for this equipment.

“The panel recommends a maximum of £200 with matched funding from the organisation making the application.”

The proposal will be discussed at the meeting which takes place in Bexhill Town Hall from 11am.

The panel has recommended Westfield Cricket Club’s grant application is approved.
