Rother website goes multi-lingual

INFORMATION about services provided by Rother is now available on the council's website in seven languages in addition to English.

A spokesman said: "Rother District Council is committed to providing access to services to all our residents.

"Working closely with the black and minority ethnic charity Sompriti, we have translated information on our website on how to access council services into seven popular languages used by citizens in Rother.

"The document is available on our website, www.rother.gov.uk, and has been translated into Bengali, Portuguese, Mandarin, Cantonese, Turkish, Spanish and Polish."

Cllr Mrs Joy Hughes said: "Our aim is to ensure that every person we deal with receives the same level of service, based solely on relevant factors and taking individual needs into account.

"We recognise people have differing communication, access and cultural needs, which may require us to make reasonable arrangements to ensure they are assisted appropriately, whether in person, by telephone or through the website.

"Visitors to our Rother website may also like to know that our website can talk. This is made possible with special software called Browsealoud. Browsealoud makes our website easier to use for a wide range of people.

"It is particularly useful for people with reading and learning difficulties, people with dyslexia, people with visual impairments and those whose first language is not English."
