Rother to write off £13K debt?

Around £13,500 of debt could be written off by Rother council as officers claim the debtors cannot be found.

Rother District Council cabinet will decide whether to write off £13,665.61 on Monday (May 9) as recommended by officers.

Any debt in excess of £4,000 can only be written out of the accounts with cabinet’s consent.

The debt relates to two housing benefit overpayments, but one of the recipients has left the country and the other cannot be traced.
