Rowing club appeals for auction lots

A MAJOR fundraising weekend is on the horizon for Bexhill Rowing Club, starting with an auction of promises.

This will take place on Friday August 19 ahead of a charity bungee jump the next day.

Both are opportunities for supporters and friends of Bexhill Rowing Club to get stuck into helping equip the new boathouse currently being built on the seafront.

Oarsman Matt Hellier, one of the Row4Charity team, is appealing for everyone to get involved and donate quality lots for the auction, which will include lots such as free car cleaning for a year at Dazzle, hair cuts from Emma at the Retreat for the girls, or from Buzz in St Leonards Road for the boys, plus other desirable treats.

“It is mostly services we are looking for,” said Matt, “but there are some lots like cabinets and a TV. And for instance, a building supplier has donated £1,000 worth of decking with two men to fit it as well, which is amazing.

“Forty lots have been collected so far but we are only half-way there. We are getting such a good response and everyone is really happy to join in. We are looking for 100 lots in total.”

The auction is followed by the bungee jump at St Richard’s Catholic College, where a crane will be in place for the benefit of those ready for the vertical drop challenge.

Matt said: “Anyone who enters gets a free bungee jump as long as they raise at least £50 for Bexhill Rowing Club. There will be a prize for the person who raises the most money.

“People need to contact us for sponsorship forms - email me for details of both at matth@next waveboathouse.com, or call Doug Holdaway on 07793708145.”
