Safety warning after Pebsham fire

FIREFIGHTERS dragged a 64 year-old woman to safety after finding her hiding in a cupboard at her smoke-filled home.

A breathing apparatus team revived her with oxygen after fighting their way into the house.

She was treated in hospital for smoke inhalation.

Now East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service is warning other householders not to attempt to tackle fires on their own but to phone for help immediately.

They also say that the only smoke alarm in the cluttered property had no battery.

Two of the woman's pet cats died in Tuesday evening's baze at Filsham Drive. A third was rescued by firefighters and revived with oxygen.
