Scouts launch Community Service Award

THE REGIONS popular Senlac District Scouts have announced the launch of the Community Service Award .

Through an initiative by the Senlac District Scout Council Public Relations Committee the Community Service Award has been launched with the objective 'to encourage good citizenship'.

The Award winner will receive an engraved silver salver acknowledging outstanding individual self motivation and recorded actions. Runners-up will receive medals and certificates.

A presentation evening is planned to take place during September, each year.

Classifications for the Award are: Achievement; Courage and Endurance; Endeavour; Commitment; Leadership; Service; Patience and Adversity; Others before Self in Risk Situation.

There will be an annual assessment of individual Citations submitted between, this year, July, 2010 and June, 2011, by Section Leaders (Beaver Scouts, Cub Scouts, Scouts and Explorer Scouts).

An independent panel of Youth Opportunities Committee, Senlac Rotary Club Rotarians will consider all citations submitted.

Meanwhile at the recent Chief Scout's Award Presentations, held at Uckfield Civic Centre, eleven Scouts were presented with coveted Certificates by Martin Gerrard, QPM, Regional Commissioner, South East England.

The occasion heralded the increasing achievements by local Scouts, through commitment, determination and success in individual endeavours.

Recipients of the Chief Scout's Award Certificate were: Kian Bennett and Aaron Millar, 1st Battle Troop; Benjamin Gibbs, Daniel Maynard, Charlotte Troughton and Sam Wilson, 1st Little Common Troop; Anthony Donaldson, James Hirst, Samuel Hirst and Max Mowbray, 2nd Bexhill Sea Scouts and Edward Skeates, 3rd Bexhill (St. Michael's) Troop.

Ben Slidel, an Explorer Scout received the Platinum Award.

Eight challenges need to be completed satisfactorily and examples include: Community; Fitness; Creative; Global; Outdoor Plus; Adventure and Expedition. The County Downsman Hike (25 miles); Abseiling; Understand as an international issue the War in Afghanistan; be part of Operation Colditz Challenge, operating into late hours; Emergency Aid; Understanding Religions; Study Water and Sanitation Problems; Scuba Diving; Dinghy Sailing and Kayaking.
