Scouts tackle abseil challenge

THE scouts of 3rd Bexhill St Michael's were eager to take up the challenge of a sponsored abseil down the training tower at Bexhill fire station recently.

Members of ESFRS’ Rope Rescue Team, based at Battle, set up their equipment ready for scouts, leaders and even parents to climb out of the fourth floor of the tower and abseil to the ground.

The first to show the way was Scout Leader Lisa Hayward-Bartlett who has recently taken over the troop.

Funds raised will go towards taking everyone to Brownsea Island in Poole Harbour to experience the very first scout camp location of Lord Baden Powell, founder of the scout movement.

To take the whole group will cost around £3,500 and so far a number of fund raising activities have been undertaken, including an Auction of Promises which raised £1,700, sponsored runners in the Hastings Half Marathon

Next up is a static bike race and it is hoped to raise £400 from this event which leaves just £800 to achieve their target.
