Heavy disruptions are being reported across the Southern line after a man fell into the tracks at West Worthing railway station today (Thursday, July 30).

Air ambulance paramedics and emergency services are understood to be at the scene.

It is not clear what the man’s injuries are but a spokesperson for British Transport Police said there was ‘no suggestion’ that he had been hit by a train.

Trains along the Brighton - Portsmouth line are currently at a standstill and there are also delays travelling up to London as emergency services deal with the situation.

A spokesman for British Transport Police said: “We were called at 3.56pm to a report of a man on the tracks at West Worthing railway station. We have attended along with our colleagues from the ambulance services.

“It seems there is a man on the tracks. At the moment it seems he has fallen on the tracks accidentally.

“However, we are still trying to establish the exact details of the incident.”

A spokesman for Southern Rail said: “We don’t yet know what the circumstances surrounding the incident are.

“We have trains at a standstill in the area and we are organising replacement buses at the moment.”

Replacement buses are said to be operating.
