Shelter design protest meeting

Got strong feelings about the new shelter design?

If so you can express them next week when a protest rally is held at the Town Hall.

This will take place on Monday September 27 at 11.30am and Jackie Bialeska of Vox Pop is asking people to come and give their opinion of "this total fiasco".

She claims reaction to the new design appears to be "one of shock and horror" and that the proposed shelter looks like "a cockeyed bird table in the 'brutalist' style".

Jackie said: "The 'shelters' fulfill none of the requirements from the original competition brief, apart from the fact that they have some sort of partial roof on. They were commisssioned to be "fun with an Edwardian twist" but foremost were required to give protection and shelter from all directions and comfortable seating.

"They have failed in every respect."

She believes months of discussion between project managers and the architects have resulted in just one change from the original designs on display at the DLWP last Christmas - the shelters are now wood instead of metal.

Jackie added: "There are more openings in the silly structure than walls. The seats are impractical and ridiculous. What a farce!

"The councils has even run out of money so cannot even provide the matching kiosk...Let's hope they don't run out of money when they've dug a big hole under the De La Warr lawn.

"Bexhill is a wonderful town and deserves better than this."
