Shooting incident closes bypass

IF the intended victim of a drive-by shooting had not ducked he would have been a dead man.

A major police operation, codenamed Skint, was mounted on Monday night after a shot was fired from one moving car at another in King Offa Way.

The rear window of the target car was shattered.

A dark-coloured Range Rover with blacked-out windows used by the attacker is still being sought by police despite appeals issued on Tuesday morning for the public's help in tracing the vehicle.

The incident occurred at about 9.05pm as the Range Rover approached the victim's car from the rear.

The intended victim, who has not been named by police, was said to be shocked but unhurt.

Police say the man, who lives locally, avoided death by ducking.

Officers sealed off the west-bound lane of King Offa Way from Dorset Road traffic lights to close at London Road immediately after the shooting.

The road was still closed and a diversion in force as Tuesday's morning rush-hour began and remained closed for much of the day, causing major traffic congestion throughout the town.

Police are appealing for witnesses
