SIDLEY'S BMX track will be the venue for a joint cycling venture between Bexhill High School and Sport England this Spring.

Professional coaching for High School students under the Go Ride programme will start on Tuesday, March 3.

It will continue every Tuesday for four weeks, with sessions from 10am until noon and from 1pm until 3pm.

Go-Ride is British Cycling's Club Development Programme aimed at improving both young riders and clubs.

It focuses on volunteers and young members - improving coaching standards and increasing the number of young riders with access to coaching activities.

Go-Ride supports the creation of links between schools and local Go-Ride community clubs, allowing and encouraging pupils to continue their cycling interests outside of school.

The first step in the programme is for British Cycling's professional coaches to visit the school and run four sessions for up to 40 young people.

These sessions can take place on a school playing field or playground or anywhere that a local cycling facility exists that the coaches can use.

In the case of Bexhill High School, the sessions will be taking place on the BMX track, home of the local BMX club Bexhill Burners.

Students will be coached in the skills they need to get around the track safely and as quickly as possible. If they progress well, there may even be some racing thrown in to satisfy the more competitive in the group.
