Sidley pupils plant daffodils

EAGER pupils from All Saints and Sidley primary schools made short work of the job when confronted with a hundredweight of daffodil bulbs to plant

Sidley Green should be a carpet of colour next spring thanks to their efforts and thanks to the generosity of Sidley's traders.

In the second such operation involving children from the two schools, youngsters working last Thursday morning extended the spread of bulbs from the existing carpet towards the New Inn.

They were watched by Jay Carroll of Carroll's greengrocers, who provided the bulbs and by his father, Sidley member Cllr Jimmy Carroll.

Town Mayor Cllr Paul Lendon, a guest at the event with Bexhill in Bloom committee chairman Sandra Melvin, told the Observer: "I am very pleased to have been asked by Cllr Carroll on behalf of the Sidley traders to be here this morning.

"I think this is a real initiative for Sidley and will make really good use of Sidley Green.

"I hope to be back in the Spring to see a profusion of lovely daffodils here."

Sandra Melvin said: "We will certainly be putting this project forward as part of our submission for the South and South East in Bloom competition next year."

Jay Carroll said: "It is just nice to get the kids involved in a Sidley project.

"They have planted bulbs here in the past and it is nice to get an additional area covered.

"By being involved in the planting of the bulbs the children will grow to have respect for the area and to enjoy it."
