Snow flurry prompts council advice

FREEZING conditions and outbursts of snow have prompted Rother District Council (RDC) to issue a warning statement.

An emergency planning officer warned Bexhill residents to prepare for poor conditions by travelling only when necessary and taking extra care walking on the slippery pathways.

The officer said: "Regular weather bulletins on radio and television will keep people aware of the latest forecast for snowfall and icy conditions.

"East Sussex Highways will be gritting major road networks and Rother District Council will ensure that there is access to public buildings and key pathways.

"Our services will be maintained as close to normal as the prevailing conditions allow but where domestic waste collections are delayed due to access then we will return and a collection will be made as soon as possible (usually within a few days) to complete the collection."

The officer asked residents to contact Rother's customer services helpline, on 01424 787000, for information about interruptions to Rother's services, and asked them to stay tuned to local television and radio stations for travel advice.
