Snow returns: Thursday morning school closures and council waste update

BEXHILL woke to around five inches of snow this morning as waste collection is suspended and almost all schools close their doors

East Sussex Highways snow ploughs and gritting lorries have been seen along main roads in Bexhill. The A259 to Eastbourne is said to be particularly bad.

Some trains run by operators Southeastern and Southern from Kent and Sussex were subject to delays and cancellations, according to their websites, though reduced diesel services were still running at 8am this morning.

Rother District Council have suspended all rubbish, clinical waste and recycling collections due to the treacherous conditions.

A spokesman advised residents to leave their bins out until staff reach them, including over the weekend.

From the schools, primaries All Saints CofE, King Offa, Little Common, Ninfield CofE, Pebsham Community, Sidley Community and St Peter and St Paul CofE are all closed.

Bexhill High School and Nursery are both closed, as are Battle Abbey Nursery and Prep.

Bexhill College is closed, as are Glyne Gap College, School and Nursery.

The hardy schools remaining open are Chantry Community Primary, St Richard's and Charters Ancaster.
