Young people with special needs took part in a sponsored walk on Saturday to raise funds for the Special Kids Bexhill charity.
They set off from Ravenside Retail park and walked along the seafront to the De La Warr Pavilion ending with a stroll around Bexhill Town Centre. Special Kids Bexhill is a registered charity that organises activities, to enable children and young adults (up to and including 25 years old) with any special needs, and their families and siblings, to access activities and have fun within a supportive environment during the school holidays.
Trustee Sharon Minter said: “The children had gained sponsorship as well as collecting from the general public while on the walk.
“The total raised will be announced on our Facebook page (www.facebook.com/specialkidsbexhill) once all the sponsorship money has been collected.
“We are so proud of all the children who took part, it is such a huge achievement for them. The money raised will be used to fund our summer program of activities for the children and their families.
“We organise activities, such as visits to Bexhill leisure pool, 1066 Gymnastics, 1066 Target Sports and Froggies at Knockhatch Adventure park, places that our members may otherwise not feel comfortable attending alone.
“We provide a lot of exclusive hire activities as well as coach trips to public places safe in the knowledge that we are all there to support each other.
“We make reasonable adjustments to the venues we hire wherever possible and in the best interests of Special Kids Bexhill as a whole.
“We provide coffee mornings and evenings on Mondays in term time, to allow the parents a chance to chat in a friendly and comfortable environment. Giving peer support and understanding of things that we as parents/carers of special needs children go through.”
