Sports success for St Richards

Seventeen pupils from St. Richard's Catholic College were recently successful in winning sport development grants ranging from £50 to £150.

Eleven pupils were successful in gaining county awards of 50 each for a whole range of sports : Christopher Cumming-Bart (football), Adam Rouncivell (swimming), Barney Cornford (athletics), Christopher Meredith (hockey), Dominic Trainor (high jump), Harry Clarke (athletics), Harry Finch (cricket), James Coyle (football), Jamey Street (cross country and athletics), Matilda Colwell (running and swimming) and Olivia Crowhurst (tennis).

Additionally, four St. Richard's pupils were presented with regional awards for different sports: Edward Kinch (biathlon), George Lee (Gymnastics), Rebecca Elphick (athletics) and Ysabel Cook (triathlon).

Two pupils were recognised for their outstanding sporting achievements on being presented with national awards of 150. They were Thomas Harrison (triathlon) and Victoria Turner (swimming).

The Under 13 Girls biathlon team at St. Richard's also won an award for their winning performance in the South East Regional Biathlon Championships.

Last month, a group of pupils attended a presentation evening at Uckfield Civic Centre and another group received their awards at an evening at the Winter Gardens in Eastbourne. Russell Varney, subject leader of PE at the college, said: "This year has seen the most awards ever gained by pupils at St. Richard's. We are very proud of their outstanding achievements."
