Students bake for two good causes

Year 10 Students from Frewen College at Northiam ran a successful charity coffee morning raising £680 to be split jointly between Demelza Hospice Care for Children and Macmillan Cancer Support.

Lesley Hayden, Head of Food and Nutrition at Frewen College said: “The children who are aged around 14, ran the coffee morning entirely by themselves including baking a wide variety of cakes in lessons, serving at the event, running a raffle and even washing up.

“They have raised a huge amount of money and we are really proud of them.”

The day was eagerly awaited and well supported with visits by Frewen’s School Governors, students, family, teachers as well as the wider community.

Demelza Hospice Care for Children have a children’s hospice in Sittingbourne in Kent and one in London. In East Sussex they offer a community hospice at home service and have specialist nurses who provide care and support in other community settings.

Macmillan Cancer Support provide practical, medical and financial support and push for better cancer care.

Frewen College is a unique school for young people between the ages of 7 and 19, with Specific Learning Difficulties (SpLD) such as dyslexia, dyspraxia and dyscalculia, and speech, language and communication needs.

Frewen College’s roots go back over 100 years making it one of the oldest dyslexia schools in the country.
