A free event offering drivers in Bexhill advice and assistance about the condition of their tyres has been hailed a success by police in Rother district.

Roads police officers, in partnership with Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency and Elva Recovery were at the Ravenside Retail Park between 10am and 2pm on Monday (November 23).

PC Barry Freeman of Sussex Police’s road policing unit said: “A total of 80 vehicles were checked on the day.

“Out of those we found 11 tyres were below the legal limit and there were 26 lighting offences.

“Everyone who stopped was given advice on how to make the necessary changes as quickly as possible.

“We hope that this event has acted as a timely reminder to all motorists to take responsibility for the condition of their tyres as winter approaches.”
