Support for rural shops

A meeting to give rural businesses help beating the recession has been set up by Rother District Council.

Village shop and post office owners are invited to Battle Memorial Hall later this month to find out about the advice, support and funding available to their businesses.

The Rother Village Shops Forum will feature guest speakers with expertise in the industry.

The meeting forms part of an innovative scheme set up by Rother District Council to help village traders beat the credit crunch.

The idea came about through the Village Shops and Post Offices Working Group, set up by the Council to assist traders.

An informal buffet and opportunities to talk with other shopkeepers, key suppliers and support services will follow the speakers.

Free Rother re-usable shopping bags encouraging residents to 'Shop Rother, Shop Local' will be given away on the night.

A range of products will also be available to try.
