Supporters are determined to keep Homecall going

SUPPORT for local organiser Jenny Private's appeal to save voluntary home-visiting services for the visually-impaired in Bexhill continues to come in from all quarters.

Jenny launched the appeal after the county-wide charity Homecall announced that because of funding difficulties it would have to cease operating from the end of September.

She believes a Bexhill-only service could be maintained for 15,000 a year.

In addition to major funding pledged by Little Common-based Care At Home and the League of Friends of Bexhill Hospital, Jenny has now received a cheque for 300 from Senlac Rotary Club, which plans to help with ongoing funding.

A grateful Homecall client has sent a cheque for 100.

Homecall will share with Hospice At Home the 3,500 profits from the Bank Holiday flower festival held at Christchurch Methodist Church.

Homecall volunteers will be putting their best feet forward on Sunday when they take part in the annual Rotary Community Walk on behalf of the charity.

Jenny is hoping that it will be possible for a decision to be made soon whether services can be continued to 67 visually-impaired clients in the town who are heavily reliant on Homecall for their home independence.

Such is the bond which has developed, many of the charity's volunteers have vowed to continue to visit their clients whether Homecall is saved or not.
