Thank You says Councillor

He arranged a party at Centenary House on Holliers Hill to show his personal appreciation for the hard work and enthusiasm of volunteers in his ward.

His visitors enjoyed Christmas cake and chocolate biscuits with their coffee before being presented with individual gifts.

He said: "This is something I have wanted to do for a long time. The idea is to extend a thank you to various people who have done different things."

Stuart then thanked a small group of volunteers who contributed greatly to the successful running of the monthly Bexhill Farmers' Market in Parkhurst Hall.

They were Ann Winborn, an amazing 94 year old, and Stanley and Mary Loosley, who are 87 and 83.

Stuart said: "When we started the Farmers' Market in Bexhill we needed volunteers because it couldn't run on its own. Ann, Mary and Stanley were the founder members who came along every month."

He also thanked Old Town residents who had shown their worth as "decent citizens" by helping to tidy and clear up as needed in the ward.

"Doreen Mills regularly goes round - nearly every day - picking up litter and removing dog waste.

"She is a really good decent citizen, and somebody we are very grateful for. There are the other residents who tidy and pick up litter, and I think it is marvellous people do this and wanted to show recognition."

The third group Stuart singled out were people who helped out during his time with Rother District Council - Dick Rowsell, Geoff Bailey and his wife Sue, and Doreen Mills again.
