Town honours its fallen

Old soldiers will stand alongside young people from youth organisations when Bexhill holds its Remembrance Parade and Service of Remembrance on Sunday November 8.

The parade will assemble in Devonshire Square at 10am and will march off at 10.20 am, arriving at the sea front war memorial where the Remembrance Service will be conducted by the Reverend Robert Coates .

Service organisations will present their colours and there will be wreath laying and a sounding of the Last Post.

Members of the public are invited to join the march from Devonshire Square and should report to the Parade Marshal by 10.15am.

For the duration of the Parade, Marina will be closed from the junction with Brassey Road to the junction with Devonshire Road and Sea Road will be closed southbound at the junction with St Leonards Road.

After the service, at approximately 11.15am, the parade will march towards DLWP and travel along Sackville Road and under the bridge to the Town Hall.

Traffic will be held at junctions en route to allow the Parade to progress.

Bexhill Lions Club will be providing marshals for the parade and service on Sunday .

Lion Richard Winrow said: “ Our aim is to ensure the safe and smooth running of this annual event with minimum disruption to the general public, through rolling road closures.

“We apologise for the short delays that will occur and look forward to the support and understanding of the public.”

The Little Common Branch of the Royal British Legion will be holding its own service and parade on Sunday.

Little Common Branch members assemble at the RBL Club in Meads Avenue at 10.30am and parade to St Mark’s Church for a Remembrance service, including the Two Minute Silence at 11am, after which the parade returns to the war memorial where there is a short Act of Remembrance and wreaths are laid at around 12 noon.

The Royal British Legion Club in Bexhill has its headquarters at London road and holds regular meetings and social events.
