The road was closed in both directions as emergency services arrived at the scene.

According to the AA, one lane is currently closed with queueing traffic on the A27 eastbound from A27 (Emsworth Services) to A259 Cathedral Way (Fishbourne Roundabout).

A diversion via the A259 is in place and is affecting traffic between Chichester and Havant.

Elsewhere in Worthing, according to the AA, the road is partially blocked with slow traffic due to an accident involving a bike and a car on the B2223 in Dominion Road both ways between A24 Broadwater Road and Sompting Road.

The A280 southbound before the A27 Arundel Road (Angmering/Clapham junction) is also partially blocked due to an earlier accident.

There is also slow traffic on the A29 Stane Street at High Street, Billingshurst, with congestion to the A264 for the southbound approach and the A272 for northbound.

Motorists are also facing heavy traffic this evening on the A27 Polegate Bypass both ways from A22 Polegate Road (Cophall Roundabout) to Brown Jack Avenue due to long-term roadworks in operation.
