Trespassing skateboarders damage playground

TRESPASSING skateboarders have damaged a brand-new £5,000 school playground project.

The skateboarders have been scaling the boundary wall of Chantry Community Primary School at night to make use of the playground.

Now police say coping stones on top of a new amphitheatre have been scored so badly by skateboarders using them as "grinding rails" that they will have to be repaired.

Members of the school's board of governors have been keeping watch at night in a bid to protect the new amenity, part-funded by the school's parent teacher association.

School governor and near neighbour Cllr Russell Tweedie-Walker said: "Until local children get a dedicated skateboard park they are going to be attracted to any playground area in a school.

"Skateboarding throughout Bexhill is a problem and the sooner we get a skateboard park up and running the better."
