Tribute to much-loved Jill

Bexhill Caring Community is mourning the sad loss of a previous organiser, Jill Halsall (formerly of Peartree Lane) who passed away on New Year’s Eve in a Bolton nursing home.

Jackie Heggarty , the current manager of Bexhill Caring Community, writes: “Jill took over the running of the charity on the retirement of its founding manager Ruby Gilham in

1987.

“At that time the organisation was operating from rather cramped quarters with a small staff.

“Jill oversaw a steady expansion in the charity’s activities, culminating in the move to its present more spacious premises in Sackville Road. She retired in 2005.

“Jill will be remembered by those who knew her as a most efficient administrator, who by her efforts ensured that the charity’s resources were used to great effect for the benefit of vulnerable people living in Bexhill. She also set up the Dial-A-Ride transport service which is still going strong today. During her long period in office Bexhill Caring Community became a much respected local organisation, receiving many legacies and gifts which have enabled it to carry on its numerous activities. Jill was also known as Chairman of the Day Centres before it was amalgamated with Bexhill Caring Community.

She was very hands on, baking cakes and cooking the meals for West Bexhill Day Centre in Little Common.

Jill’s contribution to the community she loved was huge, she was respected and admired by all who knew her.

“Bexhill Caring Community will always be indebted to people like Jill who have given so much to those in the community who need help and support.”
