The 1st Little Common Cub Scouts are celebrating after beating off the competition to win the District Commissioners trophy.
The District Commissioner’s Trophy is an annual competition for Cub Scouts aged 8 to 10.5 years and is open to Cub Packs in the Senlac District.
This years competition was held in bright sunshine at the Senlac Campsite in Freezeland Lane, Ninfield, and was attended by seven Cub Packs.
In 2.5 hours, unaided, the Cubs, in teams of six, were required to erect a dining shelter in a dedicated area, erect a hike tent and a toilet tent and build two gadgets.
The main task was to light and maintain a fire and prepare and make hot drinks and cook sausages for a team of judges.
After 2.5 hours it was judged that 1st Little Common Cub Scouts were the winners with a total of 117 points, four points ahead of the nearest other team.
Prior to the presentation of the District Commissioners (DC) trophy, one of the judges, Mike Clark Senlac District Commissioner, praised all the teams for the high standard achieved by all those taking part.
Stephen Webb-Bowen, Group Scout Leader also praised the youngsters for their dedication and hard work.
“I am so proud of the 1st Little Common Cubs,” he said.
“1st Little Common had never won the competition before as the team of Aleese, Rowan, Jack, Joshua, Alex and Lucas were very excited to have won and wanted to hold the owl trophy.
“I was happy just seeing them enjoying themselves but to win it for the first time was the icing on the cake.”
The trophy was presented to the 1st Little Common Cub Scouts by Ben Richardson East Sussex County Commissioner who was also one of the judges.
The Senlac District for Scouting covers Burwash, Robertsbridge, Battle, Bexhill, Ninfield, Crowhurst and Little Common.
