As part of maintenance of the water network, South East Water will be replacing old stop taps in Bexhill from today (Monday, November 23) into the New Year.
These are mainly located in public footpaths or in grass verges and the company said teams will be working as quickly as possible to keep disruption to a minimum.
Before work starts it may be necessary to mark an area with blue spray. This is temporary and will wash away naturally.
In some areas barriers may also be needed to guide pedestrians safely around the working area for a short time.
The stop tap replacement work should not mean there is any interruption to water supplies.
Stop taps on South East Water’s network are needed to halt water flow in an emergency or during routine work and are similar to those found in customers’ properties.
Oluseyi Onifade, of South East Water, said: “We are updating the stop taps as part of the ongoing upkeep of our network.
“While we are doing this work, it’s a good opportunity to remind our customers to check where their internal stop tap is and make sure it’s working. Knowing where your stop tap is located is as important as knowing where your electricity fuse box is.
“Being able to turn it off in an emergency will instantly stop further water damage if there is a leaking water pipe in the home.
“Of course prevention is best, so it’s important to lag exposed water pipes to prevent them freezing in winter and to check for leaks regularly.
“Warning signs of a leak include a drop in water pressure or a continuous noise from the plumbing system, even when no one is using water.”
