U3A members celebrate their 25th in style

U3A celebration

From humble origins as a small group in a room above the library the branch now boasts over 400 members and over 60 interest and study groups.

A delightful Ritz style tea, with classical entertainment, held at the Azur St Leonards in the summer, was followed by a celebratory cake enjoyed by all at the AGM. The festivities culminated in the publication of a celebratory book ‘Celebrating 25 Years! 1989 -2014’ which the branch was pleased could be launched at the Christmas Party by Hilvary Robinson, SE Trustee from the Third Age Trust.

Members were entertained at the Christmas party by the Year 3 Choir from St Peter and St Paul Primary School, who sang carols with enthusiasm resplendent in tinsel, reindeer antlers and Santa hats. The proceeds from the Christmas raffle of £186 were donated to the school’s charity, Samaritan’s Purse, which delivers Christmas shoebox parcels to children in need across the world.

U3A - a University of the Third Age - is aimed at older people and allows members to share a variety of education, creative and leisure based activities. These are organised in small groups that meet regularly, and members are able to share knowledge, skills and experience with each other. Groups meet in Bexhill and Little Common, and Hastings, and members decide for themselves what will be the content of their meeting, getting together weekly, fortnightly or monthly.
