UPDATE: VIDEO: Three people pulled from sea at Camber Sands

Three people were pulled from the sea at Camber Sands after getting into difficulty in the water this afternoon (Wednesday, August 24).

One man was rescued at around 2.10pm and 10 minutes later another person was seen in the water and pulled out before a third person was saved at 2.35pm, police said.

Everyone has been ordered out of the water by police, who tweeted a fourth person was rescued but that was retracted.

All three were being treated at the scene by paramedics after Kent, Surrey and Sussex Air Ambulance landed on the beach.

Reports suggest none of the casualties were breathing when they were rescued.

A spokesperson for South East Coast Ambulance Service (SECAmb) said: “We are in attendance at Camber Sands near the central car park.

“We responded to reports of a total of three patients being pulled from the sea.

“They are being treated at the scene.”

Coastguard search and rescue helicopters based at Lydd and Lee on Solent were scrambled to after three people required ‘urgent medical assistance’ at 2.15pm.

Dungeness and Rye Bay Coastguard Rescue Teams and Rye Harbour RNLI lifeboat were also mobilised to help continue searching for other potential casualties.

There is also a senior coastal operations officer on scene.

A Coastguard spokesman said this incident is ongoing and we have no further information at this stage.
