Updated: Man dies after being hit by train at Cooden Beach

A man has died after being struck by a train at Cooden Beach Railway Station this afternoon (Wednesday).

The incident happened just before 12.30pm and the emergency services are currently on the scene.

British Transport Police have confirmed the incident is not being treated as suspicious.

A spokesperson for BTP said: “We were called to the line close to Cooden Beach station at 12.30pm on Wednesday December 10 to reports of a person being struck by a train.

“Colleagues from Sussex Police and South East Coast Ambulance also attended and a man was pronounced dead at the scene.

“The incident is not being treated as suspicious, and our officers are now working to identify the man and inform his family.

“A file will be prepared for the coroner.”

The train involved was the 11.32am Brighton to Ashford Service.

The line is currently closed and replacement bus services are expected to be running between Eastbourne and Ashford stations shortly.
