Woman hit out at police officers

A SINGLE mother-of-three struggled and hit two police officers following a row over an unpaid pub entrance fee.

Sherry Ilett, 29, of Preston Road, punched one officer in the face and kicked another in the knee near the York pub in London Road.

She had been out drinking on November 12 but was accused of walking into the pub without paying the admission price by a doorman.

Prosecutor Alison May said: "There was an altercation between a member of security staff and the defendant.

"He said she had walked in without paying an entrance fee and she was challenged.

"She was unhappy about this and became abusive and aggressive. This behaviour attracted police officers nearby.

"She was warned about her behaviour but she carried on. The defendant was then arrested.

"She was swinging her arms around and struggled with officers.

"One was hit in the face and he suffered from an abrasion above the left eye.

"She was clearly very drunk at the time and was kicking out at those around her.

"The defendant kicked the second officer in the leg before being taken to the floor and restrained."

In police interview Ilett accepted hitting the first officer in the face but could not remember anything else about the incident.

She has no previous convictions.

Ilett pleaded guilty to two charges of assaulting a police officer and causing harassment and distress.

She appeared at Hastings Magistrates' Court on Tuesday.

Kim Goodall, defending, said: "The worst thing about this is that her good character has been lost.

"She is at a loss to explain her behaviour. She had drunk too much.

"She is on anti-depressants and anti-anxiety medication which she mixed with alcohol."

Mr Goodall said Ilett had only separated from her partner nine months ago and was going through "domestic difficulties".

"She apologises for her extremely embarrassing court appearance," he added.

Magistrates ordered a pre-sentence report.

Ilett must return to court on December 13.
