Bexhill triple world record holder Jan Meek is undertaking a 25 mile marathon trek around Salisbury Plain and Stonehenge in memory of her mother.
Jan is raising funds for the Alzheimer’s Society. Her in memory of her mother Sibyl who died earlier this year at 93 and who suffered from dementia.
She said: “Mum made history herself as the first female estate agent in Sussex when she opened her own firm - S. Brookes and Partners in Battle in 1967.
“Dementia stole her last two years and this is the most practical way we can support work that will help other families facing the issues of dementia and Alzheimer’s disease.”
The Stonehenge walk falls on Jan’s late mother’s birthday - September 5.
Since her mother’s death, Jan’s step-father has also been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s. She said: “The disease is sadly robbing him of his sweet memories of his time with my mother, so this walk is for him too and everyone who is experiencing the devastation of this sad and destruction illness.”
Jan is a triple Guinness World Record holding adventurer who dedicates her life to motivational speaking and inspiring people, regardless of their age, gender or size, to achieve goals they believe to be impossible.
In 1997 her son Dan Byles talked her into rowing 3,044 nautical miles across the Atlantic Ocean in a wooden rowing boat. In turn, ten years later she convinced him to race with her to the Magnetic North Pole.
Not one to rest on her laurels, the following year she walked to the Geographic North Pole.
In April 2013, Jan Meek undertook yet another adventure - a trek to Everest Base Camp 17,500 ft above sea level as part of her altitude training for the South Pole. It was a trip that missed the disaster of the avalanche by just four hours.

Jan is in long term training and planning for her next serious challenge which will see her take on the South Pole.
