Delighted lorry is finally gone!

Hooray!! The abandoned Italian lorry that has been parked by the green at Galley Hill and the subject of much discussion on your letters page has finally been removed last Saturday although why it has taken four months for our local police force to react still remains an abiding mystery.

My thanks to the Observer for your support by publishing three critical letters about the lack of any action from our local police in removing the monstrous lorry and two from former DCI Michael Healey lending his valuable authoritative support based on his professional experience.

But the hammer blow I suspect was the excellent front page story you published two weeks ago concentrating minds at police headquarters on the festering problem.

The joy of seeing the lorry being removed was epitomised by the lady standing across the road from the lorry and as the driver started to edge out into the road she clapped her hands above her head and cheered.

I don’t know who you are dear lady but you were dressed in a yellow jumper and if you are reading this letter you’ll know.

I would just like to say that your delight reflected the feelings of all the residents around the green and has made the fight over the past four months to bring the whole sorry saga to an end worth while.
