The Worsham development, off Wrestwood Road, was given outline planning permission on Thursday, November 12, subject to a lot of conditions and the completion of the legal agreement on infrastructure contributions.
This is a major part of Rother’s area plan, with more than 1,000 dwellings, a new primary/nursery school, playing fields and local centre and commercial properties. If all goes as hoped development could start next year, with completion taking about eight years.
We were never going to stop this development, because this area had already been designated for major house building, but what we have to do is fight to protect the interests of existing residents, especially those closest to the site. With no town council to take ownership and indeed receive some of the infrastructure money, we also need to fight for best use of the developer’s contributions (some £9.5m) in Bexhill.
I will be fighting for this and hope that others will help me.
