I wish we had a parking warden

In 2000 my late husband and I moved to Bexhill. It is a lovely place, has many clubs, friendly people and an amazing surgery in Turkey Road.

The doctor asked me what I thought of moving from London to Bexhill. I praised the area except for the driving.

I told her my husband said the drivers did not use their indicators as “They knew where they were going and it was none of your business where they were going!”

Since I think the driving has improved (others may not agree), but the parking OMG (as youngsters text).

It is wonderful that we don’t have parking fees, generally.

I wish we had a parking warden as cars are parked for hours in permitted spaces, although it is for only two hours in many cases. It is okay if you are a taxi cab or disabled (not that I begrudge true disabled drivers).

People park at corners that is difficult to see the road. Double parked, just to nip into the bank. Park on zigzag lines to collect my shopping from a shop. Shopkeepers are the worst as they park all the time the shop is open.

Mind you as Max Bygraves, at the De La Warr, when it was affordable to go there, “Bexhill closes at 4 o’clock!”

How we Londoners laughed.

I would have thought a traffic warden would pay for themselves and keep Bexhill shoppers moving (even at 20 mph as on the sea front.
