Informed views make a difference

Since Mr Courtel is keen to raise topics at the forum I can only wonder why, during the thirteen months of this committee’s operation, he has never requested to do so.

Topics such as those he refers to (letters November 20) would be most welcome.

Throughout our time we have made it simple to communicate with the committee as well as inviting Bexhill’s residents to propose subjects of interest to the town.

These can be for the forum to address formally or for the proposer to raise.

Yet Mr Courtel prefers to write to the Observer rather than request a subject through the committee.

After reading his letter we conducted a straw poll to check whether members of the public are aware that they may put forward such suggestions. The response? A resounding Yes!

We have, to date, received two requests; one for a subject to be addressed generally, one for a member to raise, namely the problem of seagulls spreading rubbish around in the town centre.

The former will be included over the next two forums, the latter has been discussed and investigated with feedback provided.

Any further requests will be similarly received. Otherwise, we are told, the public are happy that we identify the issues that need to be dealt with.

The committee keeps a close eye on the many proposals and activities that are affecting our town, ensuring that people are kept as up to date as possible and so able to question, to challenge, and to give opinions that will help form final decisions.

Informed views are the only views that will make a difference. Uninformed arguments do not.
