Issues over the collection of refuse...

I was just wondering whether you had received any letters of complaint regarding this new waste collection system which was implemented in June this year.

We have had one instance of the whole of Wentworth Close recycling not being collected on June 19.

As our collection date is on a Friday Rother District Council will not allow you to report a non-collection until after 5pm the same day (which I then did by email) and they ask that you leave your bins out as they can’t promise which day they will be collected.

It was eventually collected on Wednesday 24.

I presumed this was a one-off teething issue and things went smoothly up until last Friday.

This time we were due for a rubbish collection.

One of my neighbours phoned Rother and was told that they would be emptied before 5pm – 5pm came and went so I emailed to register non-collection.

As of today not only have they not emptied our bins but we also have the problem that we now have bin bags in our back garden which are being attacked by seagulls so we are having to constantly rebag them.

My husband phoned Rother this morning to be told “they might get out this week but cant promise anything”.

This is simply disgusting attitude.

I can completely understand that they may have a delay in collecting some rubbish due to staffing issues or vehicle breakdowns – however wouldn’t it be fairer that everyone’s collection was then delayed in order to catch up.

For example my sister lives in Filsham Drive and her rubbish was due to be collected on Friday and they collected it on Saturday.
