The lack of a basic station at Glyne Gap to serve Ravenside continues to baffle. Busy retail centre + yards from railway line + logic = station.
The railway between Eastbourne and Hastings has been resignalled and can accomodate more trains. Existing trains could call at Ravenside, at the very least a half hourly service if not 20 minute interval to make it attractive. The negativity of those who control the purse strings is unreal.
Train timetables are tinkered with all the time and there is no good reason for a basic station not to be provided where it is needed.
A Glyne Gap station along with other obvious improvements to the local rail network were said to be a likely outcome of rail privatisation 20 years ago.
Lots of hot air has since been spouted – balanced out by a big fat zero when it comes to anything actually having been done.
The Amber Rudd initiative re a service to St Pancras via Rye is steadily being swept under a carpet, electrification of the Ashford line head shakingly remains the pipe dream of 20 years back, and appalling overcrowding on the two coach diesel trains between Brighton and Ashford will continue.
And in the meantime the benefits of the new link road will gradually be negated by the mostly avoidable clog up (caused by said link road as predicted by many in the Observer letters page) on Ridge West centred around both ends of Junction Road where a couple of roundabouts could easily be provided.
