Roaring success for everyone

Bexhill looked its best on Saturday for the Roaring 20s day!

The De La Warr Pavilion was doing what it was built for – weighed down with onlookers on every balcony and stairwell, and forming the perfect backdrop for what seems to have been a highly successful event (apart from the awful, sputtering sound system set up on the front).

The town seemed to be buzzing. My friend and I, dressed to the nines in our flapper outfits and waving our chopsticks (transformed into elegant pseudo art deco cigarette holders), promenaded along the front and into shops in Devonshire Road – which was far most bustling than usual for a Saturday afternoon.

We were complimented, smiled at and had photos taken of us, especially in front of some of the fantastic vintage cars on the front! Shopkeepers we spoke to said that they had been much busier and felt such events were wonderful news for Bexhill.

I agree. Bexhill seemed so lively and some of the numerous small shops that form a major part of the town centre had excellent stalls set up on the prom providing them with an advertising and selling opportunity. This is a terrific little town and events like this can only be good news for many such businesses.

My husband, travelling down from London on Friday evening, met some ladies who were actually travelling from London to join in. There must have been others! If this event takes place again next year and I hope it does I believe that it could grow and grow and develop in all kinds of ways and help potential tourists discover Bexhill!

The De La Warr makes a wonderful focus – and as a resident of Bexhill, I’d strongly support other, themed imaginative and exciting family events such as this.
