On behalf of the young people, their parents and staff of St Mary’s, I would like to pass on our grateful thanks and admiration to Phil McCorry and Dan Renner, who were featured in an article last week when they completed their Atlantic Challenge, rowing 3285.69 miles across the Atlantic Ocean completely unaided in 49 days.
I hope that like our students, many of your readers were inspired and excited by this unusual and brave adventure.
This was such an incredible thing for two young men from Bexhill to choose to do, and both the boys and St Mary’s have been overwhelmed by the generosity of the local community, both individuals and businesses, in sponsoring the challenge, the ‘names on the boat’, and the lovely donations and messages that were received in support of the challenge and of our young people.
With your readers help, Phil and Dan have raised nearly £8,000 for children and young people in Bexhill with severe speech, language and communication disabilities, and other complex needs.
These funds are helping St Mary’s to make fantastic improvements to the facilities and refurbishments programme at the School and 6th Form College on Wrestwood Road.
As many of our children need to live with us during term time rather than being at home with their families, these improvements are making a big difference to the lives of our students.
Thank you to everyone who supported the challenge, and also to the support team who helped make the adventure possible.
Congratulations to Dan and Phil!
