A new drive-in cinema experience is one outing on offer to people this summer.

For 12 weeks across 11 UK cities, @TheDriveIn invites passengers to pull up in their cars for a package of drive-in experiences, from stand up comedy to bingo to silent car discos, ahead of watching some of the world’s best-loved films beamed straight in to the car radio.

The shows, from July 2 to September 27, feature a top-of-the-range LED screen, and a food delivery app serving American-style dishes and snacks via roller waiters, all while adhering to safe social-distancing practices.

@TheDriveIn offers an escape for those who are missing forms of outdoors entertainment post lockdown. Tickets start at £35 per car and will be on sale from May 27, with films and venues announced soon. People who are interested can sign up for the exclusive pre-sale via: atthedrive.in

Ten free tickets per screening will be available for NHS staff and care workers as a thanks for their hard work and dedication during the Covid 19 pandemic.

Each screening will be preceded by a range of entertainment including bingo, silent car disco or stand-up comedy, to suit families and friendship groups of all ages.

A food delivery app will allow guests to order Americana-inspired food from some of the industry’s best suppliers, delivered straight to boxes by each car via roller waiters.

Cars parked over two metres apart provide naturally built-in social distancing, and entry will be via license plate checking, meaning no interaction between staff and guests is necessary.

Toilet facilities with strict hygiene measures will be followed, in line with government guidelines, to ensure a safe environment.

With six shows per city, there is something for everyone, from family-friendly afternoons to late-night screenings.

Organiser Alan Crofton said: “We are incredibly excited to bring our modern day version on the classic drive in to the UK.

"Our aim is for @TheDriveIn to be an experience that brings real joy this summer and the perfect antidote to a post-lockdown world, and we promise to deliver it within a safe yet fun environment.”

Ticket holders will be eligible for full refunds if, for any reason, an event is cancelled. To view all screenings, times and destinations, visit: atthedrive.in
