150 bowlers contest charity event

The Charity Triples Competition took place at White Rock Bowling Club on Sunday and was opened by the Mayor, Cllr Alan Roberts.

Each team played two matches, one in the morning and one in the afternoon, and the winners were decided by the team with the highest positive score.

Unlike the Hastings Open Bowls Tournament in August when local bowlers scooped virtually all the prizes, this time they went away empty handed.

The winners, and probably the furthest travellers on the day, came from Littlehampton Bowling Club (skip Brian Foskett with R. Maton and R. Hallett) with 37 points. Runners-up were one of the 10 West Hoathly Bowling Club teams (skip Andy Campbell with P. Vincent and J. Stephens) with 34 points.

Cllr Maureen Charlesworth and Audrey Ward trapped unwary and unsuspecting bowlers into buying raffle tickets, and raised a magnificent £335 on the day. The kitchen staff worked hard all day providing food and refreshments, and a special thank you must be given to Peter Mitchell from Top Flight Supplies for donating all the trophies.

The big winner is St Michael’s Hospice, who will shortly receive a cheque for £600, the total proceeds from the day.
