Organised by Battel Bonfire Boyes, the event has grown year on year and is now very much looked forward to by both serious and fun runners.

Sam Begg, of 7 Oaks Triathlon, was the winner in a time of 37.16, with Hastings AC runner Paul Bennett second. Kate Stoddard was the leading lady.

“Once again the 10k was another amazing event in Battle’s calendar,” BBB spokesman Matt Southam said. We would particularly like to thank Hastings Athletic Club for all their assistance at the finish line, as well as our sponsors Battle Muffin Club and all the marshals who have given up their time to make the event a success.”

Packed with spectators lining the route to cheer on runners, the race was run in lovely conditions. One of the biggest groups was the team running for “Out Of The Blue”, who were raising money in memory of Will Beckett. The 50-strong team wore distinct blue t-shirts and raised money for charities such as Winston’s Wish, The Beachy Head Chaplaincy Team and Dragonflies.

Though happy with the growth of the event, Southam is keen to keep building and make next year’s race even bigger and better.

“We want to build on the success of the event and expect even more runners to take part next year,” Southam continued. “We’ve had excellent feedback this year so we’re hoping the reputation will continue to grow.

“For example, next year we’re hoping to have chip timing. Little improvements like this will be appreciated by many.” Full results are online at www.bbb10k.co.uk
