Award caps great season for Alexia

ALEXIA Walker has been named Sussex Ladies Under-19s Cricketer of the Year.

After an excellent season, the 18-year-old from Bexhill finished with the highest batting and bowling figures at the county club, but was still surprised to win the award.

She said: It s nice to be recognised by the county this year as being the captain I have being thinking more about the team rather than my own performance.

Alexia started playing cricket at the age of ten through a Sussex coaching scheme at her primary school in Little Common.

She has now come full circle and coaches youngsters for the county herself.

As well as playing for the county, Alexia makes appearances for Eastbourne and is becoming a regular fixture in the England side.

She captained England Under-17s, and was made vice-captain for the under-19s in the European Cup this summer, finishing runners-up to Ireland.

The all-rounder has just started studying at Loughborough University, choosing the campus specifically for its cricket centre of excellence where she will receive coaching from former England fast bowler Graham Dilley.
